Bransholme Enterprises is a social enterprise based in the North Carr area of Bransholme in the city of Hull. We have a number of projects which we deliver on our Allotment and Woodland sites based on Noddle Hill Way.
We currently have a working community allotment which has 21 plots which are all being used by plot holders from the local community. We deliver accredited basic horticultural courses as we are an accredited Open College Network Centre. Within these courses we also deliver soft skills to increase people’s chances of gaining employment. Our courses are free to anyone who is currently unemployed.
Our work centres on the themes of environment, community and health and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the Big Lottery Fund, the European Social Fund, the Working Neighbourhood Fund and the North Carr area Team for their funding support.
Also, on our site we work with partners such as the Youth Offending Team, local day centres, local schools and other community organisation.
In April 2009 we were awarded a grant through the Big Lottery Fund’s Peoples’ Millions to enable us to regenerate a 15 acre woodland site which is located next to our allotments. This has been a real task as the Noddle Hill Community Woodland had been neglected over a number of years. It is now a beautiful area which is accessed by many in the local area. This funding has now ceased but work continues to improve and maintain this wonderful area.
We could not have achieved any of the above without the hard work and dedication of our volunteers and we are always looking for more people to join us to work on our allotments and woodland. We have dedicated volunteer days which are Wednesdays for the woodland and Thursdays for the allotments.
We have some hard work ahead of us as we have recently expanded the site and have started working on our sensory garden, community orchard and have many more plots for people from the local area to use. Our composting toilet is now open to site users and is working well. We are very proud to have one of the first public composting toilets in Hull.
We love people coming to visit us and seeing for themselves the fantastic work we do so if you would like to come along or you would just like to know more then please don’t hesitate to contact Kelly or the team on 01482 821467.
